Help Us Find Land for a Permanent Animal Rescue Sanctuary

For 35 years, Home From Home Sanctuary has rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed animals across Hertfordshire from rented premises, borrowed gardens and the kindness of foster families. We've never had a permanent home — and it's time to change that.

Why we need land

A permanent sanctuary means kennel blocks designed for recovery, not confinement. It means paddocks where anxious dogs can learn to trust again. It means a cattery where frightened cats have space to decompress. It means a forever home for the animals no one else wanted — and a base for the community that supports them.

We're not asking for a million-pound estate. We're looking for something realistic: 1–10 acres in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire or the North London fringe. Paddocks, smallholdings, equestrian land, brownfield with planning potential, or rural plots with vehicle access and water supply. Existing outbuildings or stables are a bonus, not essential.

What we're looking for

We can buy at fair market value, lease long-term, agree a peppercorn rent, or explore part-donation and joint stewardship. We're flexible because the goal matters more than the structure. If you know a farmer who's retiring, a landowner with unused paddocks, or an estate agent with a quiet rural listing, please put us in touch.

If you can't offer land directly, you can still help enormously. Share our land appeal on social media. Mention it to your local parish council, riding club or farming group. Drop our details to anyone you know in property or land management. Every introduction matters — the right connection could come from anywhere.
